HB 2707 Summary

• Amends Arizona Revised Statutes section 15-506 to require school districts and charter schools to set aside at least one minute but not more than two minutes at the beginning of each school day for a moment of silence in kindergarten through grade twelve.

• During the moment of silence, students may not interfere with other students' participation, and teachers cannot suggest the nature of any reflection students may engage in.

• Requires teachers to encourage parents to discuss with their children how to best use the moment of silence.

• Maintains existing requirements for United States flag display, Constitution and Bill of Rights copies (grades 7-12), pledge of allegiance recitation time, and exempts private schools, parochial schools, and homeschools from these requirements.

• Effective date: April 12, 2022 (approved and filed by Governor).
