Matthew Miller, a 48-year-old aerial firefighter and pilot, died on July 10, 2021, while performing reconnaissance on the Cedar Basin Fire near Wikieup, Arizona.

Miller's Beechcraft King aircraft crashed during initial attack efforts on the brushfire, also killing 62-year-old Jeff Piechura, Air Tactical Group Supervisor.

Miller was an accomplished pilot and flight instructor with Falcon Executive Aviation who trained thousands of students and served as a designated FAA pilot examiner issuing licenses to hundreds of new pilots.

Miller served with the United States Forest Service as an air attack pilot and instructor with extensive knowledge of forest service policies, fire behavior, and tactics.

The House of Representatives expresses its deepest regret at Miller's death and extends condolences to his surviving wife Jacqy and two stepchildren.
