AZ SB1008

Amends Arizona Revised Statutes Section 16-661 to change the automatic recount threshold from one-tenth of one percent to one-half of one percent of votes cast.

Replaces the previous multi-tiered recount system with a single threshold of one-half of one percent margin between candidates or for constitutional measures.

Automatic recount requirement applies when the margin between the two candidates receiving the greatest number of votes, or votes for and against measures, meets the one-half of one percent threshold.

Exempts elections for precinct committeemen, school district governing boards, community college district boards, fire districts, and other special districts from the recount requirement.

Effective date: May 20, 2022 (approved and filed with Arizona Secretary of State).
