SB1282 Summary

• Director of Environmental Quality, in consultation with the Corporation Commission, must adopt rules within one year establishing minimum energy efficiency standards for 13 categories of products including air purifiers, commercial kitchen equipment, electric vehicle supply equipment, fluorescent lamps, ventilating fans, sprinkler bodies, general service lamps, and water coolers.

• Air purifiers must meet ENERGY STAR Room Air Cleaners Version 2.0 specifications including minimum clean air delivery rate of 30 for smoke, efficiency requirements based on size, ozone limits of 50 parts per billion, and power consumption limits of 1-2 watts depending on Wi-Fi connectivity.

• Commercial equipment (dishwashers, fryers, ovens, steam cookers, hot food holding cabinets) must meet corresponding ENERGY STAR Program Requirements Product Specifications at specified versions.

• Standards do not apply to products manufactured in Arizona and sold outside the state, products manufactured outside Arizona and sold at wholesale for out-of-state retail sale, products in manufactured homes at construction, or products designed for recreational vehicles.

• Violations constitute unlawful practices under Arizona Revised Statutes section 44-1522 and are subject to remedies under title 44, chapter 10, article 7.
