Senate Bill 1497 - Arizona America250 Commission

• Establishes the Arizona America250 commission to plan and coordinate commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and showcase Arizona's impact on the nation.

• Commission consists of 11 members: one state senator (appointed by senate president), one state representative (appointed by house speaker), and nine governor-appointed members representing historic preservation, tourism, veterans, parks and recreation, arts, Indian tribes, education, business, and fraternal organizations.

• Commission members serve for the life of the commission with no compensation, elect their own chairperson and vice chairperson, and meet on call of the chairperson with a majority quorum requirement.

• Commission must conduct extensive public engagement by December 31, 2026, to develop programs celebrating the 250th anniversary, coordinate with federal and local agencies, recommend legacy projects for counties and municipalities, and emphasize veteran service and sacrifice.

• Commission must submit annual reports to the governor and legislature documenting activities and outcomes by December 31 each year; commission is repealed September 30, 2027.
