AZ SB1544

Increases the number of appointed members on the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission from 14 to 17 members, with no more than 9 from the same political party.

Adds three new types of members to the commission: a person who leads an indigent defense agency, a person who leads a private nonprofit juvenile justice organization, and a psychiatrist or psychologist with criminal justice experience.

Maintains existing appointed member requirements including police chiefs, county attorneys, sheriffs, judges, mayors, county supervisors, and chief probation officers from counties of varying populations.

Specifies staggered terms for the three additional appointed members: one term ending January 11, 2023, and two terms ending January 10, 2024, with subsequent appointments to follow statutory requirements.
