SB 1593 Summary

• Expands county payment obligations for medical and forensic examination expenses to include sexual offense cases under Arizona Revised Statutes sections 13-1404, 13-1405, 13-1406, and 13-3212, in addition to dangerous crimes against children.

• Counties must pay examination expenses using federal monies, state-appropriated monies, or any combination thereof.

• Each county must publish on its website the name of the county official responsible for paying these examination expenses.

• Prohibits health care institutions from charging intake, consultation, facility, or other fees to patients for medical or forensic examinations that counties are required to pay.

• Prohibits health care institutions and providers from issuing balance bills to patients for covered medical or forensic examinations, either directly or through billing companies.
