Parents or guardians of students with seizure disorders may submit seizure management and treatment plans developed with their child's physician or registered nurse practitioner to school districts or charter schools beginning in the 2022-2023 school year.

Seizure management plans must outline procedures to manage active seizures and available health care services, and must be signed by the parent/guardian and treating physician or nurse practitioner.

School nurses or designated employees must review submitted plans, and school personnel are immune from civil liability for good faith implementation of plans except in cases of gross negligence, willful misconduct, or intentional wrongdoing.

School nurses must complete online training on managing seizure disorders, and school principals, teachers, bus drivers, and classroom aides with regular student contact must complete awareness training; both trainings approved by the state board of education and required only once per five-year period.

By September 1, 2023, each school must have at least one employee trained to administer seizure rescue medications or assist with self-administration and to operate vagus nerve stimulator magnets.
