AZ HB2002

Amends Arizona Revised Statutes sections 41-742, 41-745, and 41-771 relating to the state personnel system and employee classification.

Expands the list of Department of Corrections positions designated as covered employees to include correctional captains, lieutenants, sergeants, corporals, correctional officer IV, community corrections unit supervisors, and community corrections group supervisors (in addition to existing officer classifications).

Positions designated as these Department of Corrections officer classifications shall be in covered service beginning on the effective date of this amendment, entitling employees to appeal rights and other covered employee protections.

Requires the director to establish rules for probationary periods for initial appointments to these Department of Corrections positions, during which probationary employees may be discharged without cause while performing actual job duties.

Makes technical corrections to existing statutory language regarding correcting inadequate performance and separating employees with inadequate performance.
