HB 2337 Summary

• Establishes licensure for dietitian nutritionists in Arizona under new Chapter 42 of Title 36, administered by the Department of Health Services.

• Allows licensed dietitian nutritionists and qualified nutrition professionals in hospitals and nonhospital health care institutions to order diets, enteral feeding, nutritional supplementation, parenteral nutrition, durable medical equipment related to nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, and laboratory tests to track nutrition status.

• Requires applicants for licensure to hold current registration as a registered dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, or to have earned a relevant degree, completed supervised clinical practice of at least 1,000 hours, and passed the registered dietitian examination.

• Establishes the Department of Health Services as the licensing authority with an advisory committee composed of one physician, three licensed dietitian nutritionists, and one public member, with authority to deny, suspend, or revoke licenses for violations.

• Sets total fees for initial licensure not to exceed $200 and exempts the Department from rulemaking requirements for one year after the effective date.
