Adds new subsection D to section 13-1204, Arizona Revised Statutes, creating a sentencing enhancement for aggravated assault on a peace officer when the trier of fact determines that section 13-701, subsection D, paragraph 17 applies (ambush provision).

Imposes an additional two-year sentence beyond the otherwise applicable sentence for aggravated assault on a peace officer when the ambush provision is determined to apply.

Specifies that the additional two-year sentence is not eligible for suspension, commutation, or release on any basis except as authorized by section 31-233, subsection A or B, or section 41-1604.07, or by commutation.

Renumbers existing subsections D through H as E through I to accommodate the new sentencing enhancement provision.

Became effective upon approval by the Governor on April 28, 2023.
