HB 2513 Summary

• Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, school governing boards must incorporate instruction on Native American history into existing curricula for kindergarten through grade 12.

• The state board of education shall adopt academic standards that include instruction on the Native American experience covering tribal history, sovereignty, culture, treaty rights, government, socioeconomic experiences, and current events in a historically accurate, culturally relevant, and developmentally appropriate manner.

• The state board of education must provide professional development to teachers and administrators on this instruction and ensure federally recognized Indian tribes in Arizona have opportunities to collaborate in developing the curriculum and professional development, with possible funding available to tribes.

• The state board of education shall submit implementation status reports to the governor, legislature, and secretary of state on October 15, 2024, 2025, and 2026.
