HB 2589 Summary

• Allows the Arizona Department of Health Services to certify emergency medical technicians (EMTs) who have completed training and testing by the United States armed forces at a level comparable to national standards for EMTs.

• Applies military training reciprocity to both amended versions of section 36-2202, addressing training standards for EMT certification.

• Exempts the Department of Health Services from rulemaking requirements under Arizona Revised Statutes title 41, chapters 6 and 6.1 for 18 months after the effective date to allow implementation time.

• Effective date of December 31, 2023 for the amended section 36-2202 as previously modified by Laws 2022, chapter 381, section 2.
