House Concurrent Memorial 2006

• Urges United States Congress to appropriate federal funds to the State of Arizona for eradicating salt cedars (tamarisk) from Arizona waterways.

• Requests the U.S. Department of the Interior and U.S. Department of Agriculture develop innovative solutions to control salt cedar proliferation.

• Identifies salt cedars as an invasive species that consume 200-300 gallons of water daily per tree, lower water tables, increase wildfire risk, out-compete native vegetation, and congest flood-prone areas.

• States salt cedars threaten Arizona's agriculture, irrigation infrastructure, water supplies, and wildlife habitats while jeopardizing recreational opportunities.

• Directs Arizona's Secretary of State to transmit copies of the memorial to the President, congressional leaders, federal agency heads, and all Arizona Members of Congress.
