Senate Bill 1208 - Dropout Recovery Programs Summary

• Prohibits online course providers and online schools from operating dropout recovery programs; restricts these programs to alternative schools within school districts and alternative charter schools with unique entity numbers.

• Adds wraparound and support services (social work coaching, trauma coaching, food and housing security coaching) to written learning plans that may count toward satisfactory monthly progress only during a student's initial program entry.

• Requires schools and educational management organizations to apply to the Department of Education to operate dropout recovery programs and notify the department within 30 days of entering or terminating contracts with educational management organizations.

• Establishes new annual reporting requirements to the governor and legislature on program outcomes including graduation rates, students earning credits, and college and career readiness indicator points, with reports due November 1 each year.

• Changes "eligible student" definition to require withdrawal from school for at least ten days (reduced from thirty days) and allows schools to determine if students are unable to participate in other programs.
