Senate Bill 1290 Summary

• State Department of Corrections must provide discharged inmates intending to reside in Arizona with relevant documentation to assist in obtaining post-release employment

• Coordinates with Department of Transportation to replace or provide nonoperating identification licenses or driver licenses to eligible inmates upon release

• Beginning nine months before release, ADOC must determine if inmates possess current identification and begin gathering required documentation if they do not

• ADOC must provide inmates with documentation including vocational/work records, birth certificates, Social Security cards, resumes with trades learned, and proof of mock job interview completion (with exceptions for inmates 65+, released for medical reasons, or deemed unable to work)

• Department of Corrections must notify inmates of eligibility to apply for occupational licenses or certifications, provide military veterans with veterans services contact information, and may use trust fund monies and donations to cover implementation costs
