Memorializes Mel J. Hannah, former Flagstaff City Council member and Coconino County Board of Supervisors member, who passed away on January 8, 2023 at age 84.

Hannah was the first African American elected to the Flagstaff City Council (serving over 12 years beginning in 1973) and the first African American elected to the Coconino County Board of Supervisors (serving 6 years).

Recognized Hannah's career in public service including work with the U.S. Forest Service, Northern Arizona Council of Governments, Governor Fife Symington's Equal Opportunity Office, and Greater Phoenix Urban League.

Acknowledged Hannah's civic leadership roles including president of Flagstaff NAACP chapter, vice chairman of NAACP Arizona State Conference, commissioner of the Arizona African American Commission, and 21-year chairman of Arizona African American Legislative Days.

Arizona Senate expresses sincere regret at Hannah's passing and extends deepest sympathies and condolences to his family and friends.
