Effective January 1, 2025, persons born after January 1, 2007 are prohibited from operating watercrafts with motors exceeding 50 horsepower unless they complete an approved boating safety education course.

The Department shall administer a boating safety education course approved by a national association of boating safety and may approve additional courses, with a list provided on the department's website.

Persons completing an approved boating safety education course must receive a certificate of completion and carry a paper or electronic copy when operating high-powered watercrafts.

The director may establish reciprocity agreements with other states and certify substantially similar boating safety education programs from other jurisdictions, issuing certificates to those who provide proof of completion.
