Medical directors at nursing care institutions must be certified by the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine or equivalent organization within 5 years of hire or contract.

Medical directors employed or contracted before January 1, 2024 must achieve certification by January 1, 2029.

Nursing care institutions must submit to the department a medical director's resume, certification status, and expected certification date upon initial hire or contract.

Nursing care institutions must notify the department of any medical director changes within 10 calendar days and provide required information for the replacement.

All nursing care institutions must provide the department with their current medical director's resume and proof of certification (or progress toward certification) by November 1, 2024.
