HB2400 Summary

• Requires school districts and charter schools employing officers on campuses to train them to recognize and interact with children with disabilities, including peace officers, reserve officers, retired officers, and juvenile probation officers.

• Establishes "school safety officers" as a new category of officers (peace officers working in off-duty capacity) that school districts can place on campuses through the school safety program.

• Allows school districts and charter schools whose approved officer placement proposals cannot be implemented to submit alternative proposals for purchasing safety technology, safety training, and infrastructure improvements like entrance/exit security equipment.

• Adds training requirements for school resource officers, juvenile probation officers, and school safety officers on the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, civil rights, and adolescent mental health issues.

• Exempts school building blueprints and floor plans from public records disclosure under Arizona's public records law.
