HB 2474 Summary

• Amends Arizona Revised Statutes Section 16-803 regarding new political party recognition petitions filed with the secretary of state or county/city/town election officers at least 250 days before a primary election.

• Invalidates any signature sheet on a new party petition containing signatures collected more than 24 months before the primary election for which the party seeks recognition, requiring the filing officer to remove such sheets.

• Changes language from "receipt of" to "receiving" and "per cent" to "percent" for technical corrections throughout the signature verification process.

• Maintains existing procedures for secretary of state review of petitions, random sampling of signatures for verification by county recorders, and calculation of valid signatures to determine party recognition eligibility.

• Designated as an emergency measure operative immediately upon approval, signed by the Governor on April 10, 2024.
