Schools in grades 6-12 that sponsor athletic teams must provide automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) at each campus and school-sponsored athletic event, accessible within 3 minutes and properly maintained.

Coaches must complete a state-approved course in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid, and AED use following emergency cardiovascular care guidelines by August 1, 2024.

Schools must develop and implement written cardiac emergency response plans in consultation with local emergency medical services by September 1, 2024, including identified staff responsibilities, equipment locations, and procedures for responding to cardiac events.

Schools must distribute the cardiac emergency response plan to all employees involved in athletic events and annually review, update, and practice implementing the plan.

Department of Education shall adopt rules in consultation with Department of Health Services to evaluate school compliance, and schools in lower-income areas (50%+ students eligible for free/reduced lunch) may receive state funds for AED purchases, training, and implementation costs.
