Governor authorized to enter into the Great Plains Wildland Fire Protection Compact with other states including South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, and adjoining states.

Compact becomes operative when any two or more member states ratify it, with the state forester serving as compact administrator for each state.

Member states may provide reciprocal aid in forest fire prevention and control upon request, with aiding state employees receiving same powers and duties as receiving state employees (except arrest authority).

Requesting state assumes all liability and must reimburse aiding state for equipment loss, materials, transportation, wages, and employee maintenance costs; workers' compensation benefits must be provided to all firefighters sent pursuant to the compact.

Act is designated as an emergency measure effective immediately upon approval; became effective May 17, 2024.
