Dr. Geraldine Peten passed away on December 13, 2023, one day before her 76th birthday, after being born on December 14, 1947 in Durham, North Carolina.

She earned a Doctorate in Education from Northern Arizona University, a Master of Science in Construction Management from Arizona State University, and additional master's degrees from Seton Hall University, following a career as an educational administrator and consultant.

Appointed by the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors in 2017 to represent Legislative District 4 in the Arizona House of Representatives, she served until 2021 on the Education, Land & Agriculture and State & International Affairs committees.

She sponsored four bills during her legislative service, including measures implementing a school funding task force and repealing college credit by examination, and founded the West Valley NAACP.

The Legislature expresses sincere sympathies and condolences to her surviving sons, 10 grandchildren, siblings, and other family members and friends.
