State Board of Education must require instruction on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander history beginning in the 2027-2028 school year as part of course of study and competency requirements.

School districts and charter schools should consider including history of these communities in the state, region, and United States; civil rights contributions from the nineteenth century to present; contributions in arts, humanities, science, and government; and economic, cultural, social, and political development of the United States.

School districts and charter schools must annually attest to the Department of Education on or before June 14, 2028 and each year thereafter that instruction under this section is planned, ongoing, and systematic.

"Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander" is defined to include Americans of East Asian, Southeast Asian, South Asian, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander descent.
