Senate Bill 1672 Summary

• Expands military affairs commission voting membership from 16 to approximately 26 members, adding positions for retired military officers with Department of Defense experience, community military support organization representatives, federal defense policy experts, and defense/aerospace industry representatives.

• Adds six nonvoting advisory members including the Arizona Commanders Summit chairperson, Arizona Commerce Authority CEO, and Arizona Board of Regents chairperson to existing advisory roles.

• Requires the commission to submit a biennial report by September 1 of even-numbered years detailing military economic impact, statewide assessment of military installations, strategies to attract new missions, and state/federal programs assisting military communities.

• Expands commission authority to recommend property acquisitions to state finance authorities and allows the department to acquire real property vital to military installations in high noise or accident potential zones.

• Increases appropriation to the Department of Emergency and Military Affairs from $90,000 to $200,000 annually with 2 FTE positions, and appropriates $100,000 to the military installation fund for fiscal year 2024-2025 and thereafter.
