Amends Arizona Revised Statutes section 13-1204 to modify aggravated assault penalties, requiring that enhanced penalties for assaults on peace officers and other protected individuals be based on actual knowledge or reason to know the victim's status at the time of the assault.

Establishes that aggravated assault on a peace officer under subsection A, paragraph 1 or 2 is a class 2 felony if the person knew or had reason to know the victim was a peace officer.

Specifies that aggravated assault on a peace officer under subsection A, paragraph 3 is a class 3 felony if the person knew or had reason to know the victim was a peace officer.

Clarifies that aggravated assault on a peace officer or law enforcement employee under subsection A, paragraph 8, subdivision (a) or (k) is a class 5 felony, or class 4 felony if physical injury results.

Adds legislative intent statement confirming that enhanced penalties based on victim status (excluding victim age) require the defendant to have actual knowledge or reason to know of that status when the assault occurred.
