Certified peace officers, including those employed by the Department of Public Safety, are no longer required to resign when offering themselves for nomination or election to salaried local or state office.

Peace officers who are appointed or elected to a salaried local or state office must resign from their peace officer employment upon taking that office.

Amends section 41-752 to create an exception for certified peace officers from the general prohibition on state employees being candidates for or holding paid public office.

The measure will be submitted to Arizona voters at the next general election for approval as a referendum measure.
