HB2078 Summary

• Beginning in the 2025-2026 school year, local education agencies offering grades 3-12 may select from a state board-approved menu of achievement assessments instead of administering the statewide assessment adopted under section 15-741.

• The state board shall no longer require public schools to administer the statewide assessment to pupils taking an assessment under section 15-741.02, effective 2025-2026.

• Local education agencies administering alternative assessments from the menu may request funding equal to the estimated per-pupil cost of administering the statewide assessment in grades 3-12.

• Assessments on the menu must be high quality, meet or exceed state academic standards rigor, and can include nationally recognized tests, qualifying college credit examinations, or locally developed assessments meeting specified requirements.

• Removes previous requirements that alternative assessments demonstrate scaled scores for state accountability programs and submit third-party evaluations before menu approval.
