Ambulances operating in Arizona must obtain and maintain a certificate of registration; certificates terminate upon any change of ownership or control unless temporarily borrowing or leasing a replacement ambulance.

Registration fees are capped at $50 per ambulance for initial registration and renewal, with volunteer not-for-profit ambulance services exempt from fees.

Certificates of registration are valid for one year, but ambulance services may request earlier expiration dates to synchronize annual inspections across their fleet.

If a certificate of registration holder submits a timely renewal application and the department cannot complete a required inspection within the prescribed timeframe, the department may extend the registration validity until the inspection is completed.

Ambulance services whose registrations lapsed between March 31, 2022 and August 1, 2024 may have those expired registrations retroactively validated by paying all owed lapsed application fees; this provision expires December 31, 2025.
