Senate Bill 1279 Summary

• Renames the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission to the Sheriffs' Criminal Justice Commission, effective July 1, 2025.

• Establishes new commission membership structure with 5 county sheriffs (appointed by legislature and governor), 2 public members with law/federal law experience (appointed by governor), and 2 municipal police chiefs (appointed by governor), serving two-year terms without compensation.

• Transfers all authority, duties, assets, records, contracts, equipment, and personnel from the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission to the Sheriffs' Criminal Justice Commission on July 1, 2025.
