Senate Bill 1707 Summary

• Public high schools sponsoring athletic teams must provide at least one unlocked, clearly marked automated external defibrillator (AED) accessible within three minutes and positioned near all school-sponsored athletic events beginning August 1, 2025.

• AEDs must be maintained in good working order per manufacturer guidelines and comply with nationally recognized emergency cardiovascular care guidelines.

• All coaches must complete training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, first aid, and AED use following nationally recognized cardiovascular care guidelines.

• Schools may accept grants and donations to purchase and maintain AEDs and provide required training to employees.

• $500,000 is appropriated from the state general fund in fiscal year 2025-2026 to the department of education for schools with ending cash balances of $5,000,000 or less to use for purchasing AEDs, CPR kits, and training courses.
