Commercial river outfitters operating in Grand Canyon National Park are granted immunity from liability for injuries or deaths arising from inherent risks of river trips, with those risks to be contractually identified between the outfitter and participant

Participants may voluntarily sign liability releases that waive claims against outfitters for ordinary negligence, providing outfitters with additional immunity protection

Liability protections do not apply when outfitters are grossly negligent or commit willful, wanton, or intentional acts or omissions

Outfitters lose inherent risk immunity if they know or should have known about a hazardous condition and fail to disclose it to participants

"Commercial river outfitter" is defined as entities authorized under federal law to provide river trips in Grand Canyon National Park, including their employees acting within the scope of employment
