AZ HB2517

Requires the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality director to establish drinking water aquifer water quality standards by December 31, 2030 for PFOS, PFOA, Chromium-6, 1,4-dioxane, and other PFAS substances detected in public water systems.

Mandates the department review standards adopted by other states and consider adopting standards for any pollutant where two or more states have already established standards or issued guidance.

Requires standards to be protective of vulnerable subpopulations including pregnant women, nursing mothers, infants, and children, with annual review of latest peer-reviewed scientific studies.

Removes the existing requirement that state environmental laws, rules, standards, permits, and orders be no more stringent than corresponding federal law addressing the same subject matter.

Amends the department's general authority by eliminating the prohibition on adopting environmental standards stricter than federal requirements, allowing Arizona to set independent state-level protections.
