Retail businesses with physical locations in Arizona must accept cash as payment for goods and services totaling $100 or less and cannot charge fees or penalties for cash payments.

Customers denied cash payment or charged a fee for using cash may sue for $1,000 per violation, capped at $1,000 per person per day or $5,000 total, plus attorney fees and costs.

Damage amounts will be adjusted annually for inflation based on the Consumer Price Index published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Exemptions apply to written contracts specifying acceptable payment forms and online sales of goods or services.

The bill renames Arizona Revised Statutes Title 44, Chapter 38 from "Businesses Exempt from Mask Mandate" to "Businesses Generally."
