Arizona school districts, charter schools, and state universities must adopt AI policies by July 1, 2027 to detect and prevent unauthorized student use of artificial intelligence for completing coursework.

Schools must implement either an AI detection system with human review, appeals process, bias mitigation, and privacy protections, or modify coursework to minimize AI use through in-classroom assessments, oral presentations, and real-time collaboration assignments.

All teachers, faculty, and staff responsible for enforcing AI policies must receive training on detection system limitations and guidelines for responsibly integrating AI into curricula.

School districts, charter schools, and universities must submit annual implementation reports to the Department of Education or Board of Regents by October 15 each year.

The bill defines "artificial intelligence" as machine-based systems making predictions, recommendations, or decisions (including generative AI), but excludes spell-checkers and basic calculators.
