Arizona House Concurrent Memorial urges Congress to pass H.R. 4255, introduced by Congressman Paul Gosar on June 30, 2025, to delist the Mexican wolf from the Endangered Species Act

The Mexican wolf reintroduction program began in 1998 with an original goal of 100 wolves, which was exceeded in 2014; as of end of 2024, there are 286 wolves in the wild and 365 in captivity

The memorial requests Congress defund the Mexican Wolf Reintroduction Project, transfer management to state and local authorities, and allow ranchers to protect their property on all lands including federal leased lands

Projected federal costs for the reintroduction program through 2030 are estimated at $47-59 million, excluding compensation funds and administrative overhead

The memorial argues Mexican wolves have caused violent attacks in communities, forced installation of caged bus stops for children's safety, and created financial burdens for ranchers through livestock losses and indirect costs not covered by compensation programs
