Senior living communities for adults 55 and older may be developed on property owned by religious institutions without rezoning approval or rezoning hearings from municipalities or counties.

Eligible sites include existing buildings on contiguous parcels owned by nonprofit religious corporations, churches, or religious organizations.

Municipalities and counties cannot impose additional zoning restrictions on these senior living developments beyond what applies to comparable projects.

Local governments may still require permits, site improvements, and impact fees if the same requirements apply to comparable development projects.

Senior living communities covered under this bill include both independent living facilities and assisted living facilities.
