Lessees who make improvements on leased state lands are no longer eligible for reimbursement or compensation from the Arizona State Land Department for those improvements, except when the department sells the improvements under existing provisions.

Applicants must still obtain permission from the department before constructing improvements on state lands, and unauthorized improvements remain ineligible for reimbursement and subject to forfeiture.

The bill amends Arizona Revised Statutes section 37-321 governing improvements on state trust lands by lessees, permittees, and other legal interest holders.

Improvements placed without department approval continue to be forfeited and become state property upon expiration or cancellation of the lease or permit.
