Local authorities with existing photo enforcement contracts signed by December 31, 2026 must seek voter approval at the next general election to continue operations.

If voters reject the photo enforcement system, the local authority must cease operations within 90 days after the election.

Approved photo enforcement systems require voter reauthorization every 10 years to continue operating.

States legislative intent to keep law enforcement in the hands of trained officers, protect citizens from outsourcing enforcement to private for-profit entities, and ensure law enforcement serves public safety rather than revenue generation.
