Arizona Legislature ratifies the proposed Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, originally passed by Congress on March 22, 1972 (House Joint Resolution 208)

The amendment establishes that equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of sex

Congress would have the power to enforce the amendment's provisions through appropriate legislation

The amendment would take effect two years after the date of ratification

The Arizona Secretary of State is directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the President of the U.S. Senate and the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives
