AB 1667 Summary

• Authorizes the Alameda County Board of Supervisors to require safety employees hired after resolution approval to elect between two pension calculation methods (Section 31664 or Section 31664.2) within 45 calendar days of employment

• Allows the board to adopt resolutions providing different retirement benefit formulas for different safety employee bargaining units or unrepresented safety employees, negotiated through memoranda of understanding

• Prohibits the board from dividing a bargaining unit solely to provide different retirement benefits, but permits separate negotiations if bargaining unit members elect to do so

• Permits the board to require employees to pay all or part of contributions under the selected retirement formula, with member payments becoming part of accumulated contributions

• Takes effect immediately as an urgency statute to implement the Deputy Sheriffs' Association memorandum of understanding regarding optional retirement benefit tiers
