AB 1721 Summary

• Prohibits pesticides from being applied by aerial applications or other methods likely to cause off-site movement within 1/4 mile of schools when in session or during school-sponsored activities with children present for commercial agriculture or state pest eradication programs

• Exempts approved organic pesticides (excluding elemental or lime sulfur) used for commercial agriculture from the restrictions

• Exempts the State Department of Public Health, local vector control agencies, and mosquito abatement and vector control districts from these restrictions

• Defines "school" as a schoolsite under Education Code Section 17609, excluding school buses and bus stops

• Establishes violations as crimes with no state reimbursement required to local agencies or school districts under California Constitution Article XIII B
