AB 1797 Summary

• Requires the Department of Water Resources to conduct an expedited evaluation and feasibility study of the Delta Corridors Plan (a through-Delta conveyance plan) as part of the State Water Resources Development System.

• Mandates the department consult with the Department of Fish and Game to assess environmental and ecological impacts, water quality issues, and fish entrainment associated with the Delta Corridors Plan.

• Requires the feasibility study to evaluate incorporating the Two-Gates Fish Protection Demonstration Project (managed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation) and assess potential impacts and benefits of operating it with the Delta Corridors Plan.

• Department must submit a report to the Legislature by January 1, 2012 with feasibility findings and, if feasible, recommendations for specific facilities to construct and potential funding sources.

• Appropriates $750,000 from Proposition 84 bond funds to the Department of Water Resources to cover the costs of the required feasibility study.
