AB 2095 Summary

• Requires state board policies to ensure curriculum frameworks (K-12) and instructional materials (K-8) include English language development standards and strategies in four core subjects (mathematics, science, history-social science, English/language arts) and address needs of pupils with disabilities

• Mandates that basic instructional materials in mathematics and reading for grades 1-8 be based on English language development for pupils whose first language is not English, including speakers of Spanish, Vietnamese, Filipino, Cantonese, Hmong, and Korean

• Requires the Curriculum Development and Supplemental Materials Commission to include directions to publishers to align lessons and teacher editions with English language development standards and incorporate strategies addressing needs of English learners and pupils with disabilities

• Requires high school district governing boards to ensure English learners and pupils with disabilities receive appropriate instructional materials in all four core subjects

• Authorizes eligible elementary and secondary teachers to complete 40 hours of professional development training in response to intervention, reducing racial disproportionality in special education placement, and instructional strategies for students with disabilities as an option for fulfilling half of required followup training hours
