AB 2167 Summary

• Replaces board-administered written and clinical vignette examinations with the Association of Social Work Boards Clinical Level Exam plus a separate California jurisprudence and ethics examination, effective January 1, 2014, if the board determines the national exam meets prevailing validation standards by December 1, 2013.

• Sets maximum fee of $100 for the California jurisprudence and ethics examination, replacing previous fees of $150 for standard written exam and $100 for clinical vignette exam.

• Allows applicants who fail an exam to retake within one year without reapplying, upon payment of required fees.

• Permits applicants with pending complaints or board investigations to take the jurisprudence and ethics examination but allows the board to withhold results pending investigation completion.

• Incorporates conforming changes to reciprocity provisions for out-of-state clinical social workers holding valid licenses in other states.
