AB 2229 Summary

• Authorizes telephonic and electronic disclosure of information between multidisciplinary child abuse personnel team members for 30 days (or longer with documented good cause) following a report of suspected child abuse or neglect, if identity verification is adequate.

• Reduces the minimum team size from 3 or more persons to 2 or more persons for multidisciplinary personnel teams created to investigate reports of suspected child abuse.

• Requires each county to develop protocols describing how and what information may be shared by child abuse multidisciplinary teams to ensure confidential information is not disclosed in violation of state or federal law.

• Expands computerized database systems to allow provider agencies to share identifying information about families and persons living in children's homes identified as at risk for child abuse or neglect, for child welfare services provision.

• Establishes that all discussions and information shared during team meetings remain confidential and inadmissible in criminal, civil, or juvenile court proceedings; sunsets on January 1, 2014.
