AB 2294 Summary

• Defines "pedicab" as a bicycle with three or more wheels or a bicycle pulling a trailer/sidecar that transports passengers for hire.

• Authorizes cities and counties to adopt ordinances licensing and regulating pedicab operations and operators, including requiring one or more of the following: valid California driver's license, bicycle safety training course certification, or California identification card plus passing score on written portion of driver's license exam.

• Makes pedicab operators subject to all Vehicle Code provisions applicable to drivers, including rules of the road and driving under the influence laws.

• Requires the Department of Motor Vehicles to administer the written driver's license exam without charge to pedicab operator applicants who hold a valid California identification card.
