AB 2612 Summary

• Removes third-party certification requirements for pesticide container recycling programs and shifts responsibility from first sellers to registrants of agricultural and structural-use pesticide products packaged in HDPE containers of 55 gallons or less.

• Expands the definition of "collection center" to include pet food processors in addition to rendering plants, and changes license expiration dates from one year from issuance to December 31 of each year.

• Exempts collection centers and renderers from the $100 registration fee required for transporters of inedible kitchen grease.

• Reduces organic product registration requirements for small producers and handlers with $5,000 or less in annual organic sales, eliminating land use history and property permission documentation requirements for non-exempt operators.

• Extends the $100 food safety fee on processed food manufacturers, packers, and holders from January 1, 2011 to January 1, 2016, and authorizes the Secretary of Food and Agriculture to require exact gross sales amounts for businesses earning $25,000,001 or more.
