AB 2682 Summary

• Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges shall establish a pilot project to create a centrally delivered student assessment system for placement and advisement in English, mathematics, and English as a second language.

• Pilot project requires creation of a secure, centrally housed assessment data warehouse collecting assessment scores from participating community colleges and K-12 assessment data and transcripts for student placement and advising purposes.

• Board must create an Internet portal providing students and college personnel with assessment profiles, practice pretests, and advisement tools showing historical success rates of remedial courses.

• Board shall convene an advisory committee including representatives from the Chancellor's Office, Legislative Analyst's Office, Department of Finance, State Department of Education, and other stakeholder groups, with a progress report due by February 28, 2011.

• Office of the Chancellor shall use existing test item banks from California State University and K-12 system, including the Early Assessment Program, and work with California State University to align college readiness assessment for implementation of the Common Assessment.
